June 2nd-7th, 2021
until 4pm (June 7th)
Garden Square Fountain, Brampton
Hello Brampton, we want to honour the 215* Indigenous children that never made it home. As we mourn, we remember that grief can also be used for change. We do not want these children’s deaths to be in vain. We no longer want to participate & bear witness to the unimaginable harms being caused to our Indigenous communities. So Brampton, regardless of how you have found yourself on these lands, it is time to stand in solidarity with its caretakers. We ask that you not only bring shoes or other memorial items to the garden square fountain but also letters for your government officials demanding the fair & equitable treatment of all Indigenous peoples. Colonial violence did not end with those 215* lost lives, we live it every day. It shouldn’t only be Indigenous voices demanding change. It’s time we show up & stop benefiting from the disappearance of Indigenous peoples.
All shoes will be donated and letters will be mailed. Thank you for showing up Brampton & thank you @cityofbrampton for giving us this space.
